Newton and Olivia

This is a surprise gift session for their mom, so if you know these two don’t tell! This inseparable pair of Bichons share the same dad and are both two years old. Newton has the rounder head and was killing with the head tilts, and Olivia has the big brown eyes that just draw you in. As you can tell, they were ridiculously photogenic and were so much fun to photograph.

Their names aren’t what you might think – Newton is named for Sir Isaac Newton, and Olivia was named after her mother. Newton’s favorite toy ever is a plastic water bottle – he loves to rip the labels off – and Olivia LOVES to watch for lizards. It is the funniest thing – when she is in the backyard you can just see her scanning every inch of the place and sees them well before any human eye could.

Here’s Newton:

And Olivia!

I was especially fond of Newton’s “clapping,” which we taught our own Sienna to do and it still gets me every time. Apparently this must be a Bichon thing, since I’ve met a few others who do it too.

Maesey & Velvet

Maesey and Velvet are two adorable sisters who started out with rough beginnings but now have their happy endings! Maesey is about ten years old and was found on the side of GA-400 after being hit by a car when she was young. Velvet is a six-year-old lhasa apso who was surrendered to Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption, but before she could find her forever home she had a serious medical scare with complications from surgery and then she was returned after being adopted.

Now the two girls spend their days napping at their mom’s feet while she works at home (how you could get anything done with these faces looking up at you, I don’t know!), playing with their collection of stuffed toys, and going for walks around the neighborhood. What a pair they make!

Nelson, Cricket & Rusty

Last week I had the honor of photographing the Red Bandanna crew: these gorgeous rescues belong to the owner of the pet food stores all around Atlanta and the metro area that provide high-quality pet foods, chews, treats, shampoos and toys. Nelson is a 10-year-old coonhound/rottweiler/chow/take-your-best-guess mix, and Cricket is a 10-year-old sheltie mix. Rusty is the is the baby of the family, a 3-year-old Bloodhound rescue.

Of course Cricket is the boss and loves ordering the boys around even though they’re both bigger than she is. They are a great pack, affectionate and sweet. I had a great time getting to know each of them. (You might recognize Rusty from the Red Bandanna calendar, which is in stores now, or available for purchase here – all proceeds go to the Red Bandanna Angel Fund and Friends of Dekalb Animals!)

For the holidays, their mom had lovely bows for them to wear, and Cricket and Nelson happily smiled into the camera for us:

Rusty, however, had something else in mind!

He definitely has the widest range of facial expressions:

While Cricket has masted the “Diva in Profile” pose:

I love the wrinkles!!!
