Frankenstein & Rockefeller

Frankie is the official “office dog” of the digital magazine Alister & Paine. He’s a 2-year-old shepherd mix who loves squeaky toys, sticks, and every person he meets. Rocky is his new 4-month-old brother, a clumsily adorable Great Dane rescue pup. The boys are still getting to know each other, but Rocky has completely taken to Frankie and follows him around everywhere. They play and wrestle, and were happy to show off for their session.

We arranged to shoot at a private skate park in Atlanta, and Frankie and Rocky were both amazing – even with the activity and sudden noises, they were attentive and happy to entertain us. Aren’t they a handsome pair?

Peanut

Peanut was adopted from Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption last year and is Max and Madison‘s new sister. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was skittish, shy, and had some skin issues. But with Candace as her foster mom and Madison as her new best friend, she slowly but surely came out of her shell and when you meet the three-dog pack and their mama you know Peanut’s found her perfect place. She and Madison wrestle, play, and sleep together. Max allows her to kiss him and shows her how gentle big dogs can be.

Our best guess for her breed is chihuahua and…something else, maybe border terrier?! Whatever she is, she is seven pounds of spunky cuteness – wouldn’t you agree?

candace - Rescuing a dog from a shelter, especially Atlanta Pet Rescue is the most rewarding experience. Here is Peanut, brilliantly captured by Leesia and it wouldn’t be possible with APR and Leesia promoting Atlanta Pet Rescue and other shelters! Fill your heart with love like this and adopt! Thank you so much Leesia for your time and the gift of the true spirt of Peanut in photos!

Cathy - I’m proud to say that I fostered Peanut for a bit and she is the BEST girl ever! Beautiful work, Leesia!

Dekalb County Animal Services

You know the drill…if you know anyone looking to add a family member, please please PLEASE encourage them to adopt and let them know how many beautiful, loving dogs and cats are waiting desperately for homes. Here are just a few that I met this week; there are many more on DCAS’s facebook page, and a directory with more details on how to adopt on their main website.

If you are interested in a specific pup or kitten below, you can also contact the adoption coordinator directly at jsmartinez [at] dekalbcountyga [dot] gov – I’m sorry I didn’t have time to add ID numbers to each of the photos below.

This poor puppy was being attacked by two larger dogs when he was picked up as a stray. His injuries were so severe they didn’t think he would make it through the night, but when I met them the next day he was pleading to be petted and eagerly lapping up his food. (He will need rescue because of his medical needs and photo of the main wound is here.)

undefined

I could hear this kitten literally crying all the way down the hall – but as soon as he was out of his cage and in your arms, he quieted completely and just wanted to be loved on.

undefined

I was told that this is, unfortunately, just that time of year – with so many stray and feral cats not spayed or neutered, the shelter is literally overflowing with litters of kittens of all ages and sizes, many not even a pound yet. With this many sharing cages with their developing immune systems in this environment, they run the risk of illness and desperately need rescue.

I was there when this baby was surrendered. These animals may not know exactly what’s happening when they’re abandoned, but they feel it.

admin - @Laine – Thanks for your note! I hope you’re able to foster her!! Keep us posted…

August 5, 2011 - 3:19 pm

Laine Sweezey - Leesia, the photo of the Rottweiler resting his/her head on a volunteer’s chest is so touching, and I have not been able to get it out of my mind for two months now. I am currently emailing the animal services center to see if that dog is still there and to try to become the dog’s foster. If I get ridiculously lucky, I will let you know!

July 30, 2011 - 8:50 am

Tim The Atlanta Picture Framer - Kittens are abominably cute en masse…I just know your photos are helping to save some of these babies. Thank you.

May 23, 2011 - 8:18 pm

Julie - Thanks Leesia for the cute picture of the kitten your heard crying down the hallway. Because of that picture my husband and I adopted him on Saturday. He is a joy! And yes, he does have a very interesting voice.

Lopa - I add my plea to Leesia – I have had 2 dogs in my lifetime and they are both rescues. My life would not be the same without them. They are amazing in what they have overcome, their love, affection, tolerance and all around great attitude toward life.ADOPT – it will enrich your life tremendously!

PS – MUTTS RULE!

May 19, 2011 - 8:42 am

Pat Thomas - Leesia, I just want to AGAIN thank you for what you are doing. Photos DO make a difference, and, I know some of these animals will be adopted because of your efforts.
With sincere gratitude, and friendship,
Pat
