Dekalb County Adoptables

I guess we’re just going to make this another “adoptables” week! I met so many beautiful dogs and cats at Dekalb County Animal Services this week and had to share their sweet faces here. I don’t know if they were just happy to be out in the sunshine in beautiful weather, but they were particularly responsive and affectionate during their visit and it was hard not to take them all home myself. These faces just break my heart.

Please take the time to share these sweethearts with any rescues who have space (DCAS is an animal control facility that relies heavily on rescue to avoid euthanasia) and with anyone you know looking to add a family member.

Emily Abril - GORGEOUS PICTURESSS!!!! Sorta sad some only have ID #’s though. =(

Jamie Martinez - Joni- Thank you for your comments. We intake over 8,000 animals a year. The animals in our adoption areas are named. The animals in our stray areas are known only by ID numbers. There is simply not time to name all of them and to keep up with names on all of them. Many are adopted and rescued directly out of our stray areas before they are named. We do everything we can with the amount of staff, resources and animals that we have at our facility. Please find us on Facebook. We appreciate Leesia so much for taking these fabulous photos. So many of the animals she photographed have already been adopted and rescued.

Michelle - Your photos are incredible. We enjoy your work so much and wish we could bring all of these babies home!

March 9, 2011 - 9:34 pm

Emily - Leesia, I work with rescue, take photos for rescue and look at many rescues online, but never before have professional photos of these babies moved me so much! Thank you for sharing.

Frances - These are gorgeous!! I hope these babies found forever homes!!!!

Mia Baker - Ugh. such cuties! I went out to DCAS last week with some friends to see if we could rescue any dogs with the rescue I’m a part of. I was in love with Pinky, but the foster home available decided not to take him. ๐Ÿ™ If anyone is interested in a tiny, sweet pitty Pinky is your fella. Jamie (rescue coordinator for DCAS) just told me he is heartworm negative! He just needs a little TLC and nutritious meals. Awesome job as always and with taking the time to take pics at Dekalb. I don’t know how you juggle volunteering at so many places and clients.

admin - @joni – Dekalb is doing everything they can to increase adoptions – the missing names has more to do with the timing of the photos; we were able to photograph many that were recently brought in before they go through the different procedures, so we thought it was more important that we get the photos up asap rather than wait for each one to be named, etc. It’s actually a good thing because it means I got to photograph more dogs than usual! (also, remember that this is a government-run animal control facility vs. a no-kill shelter) Thank you for the suggestion!

Joni Solis - Thank you for taking he time and effort to take these photos. I tweeted: So many cuties! #adopt #dogs #cats #puppies @ Decatur, Georgia Dekalb County – #pet #photos by Leesia Teh http://ow.ly/48ped SHARE

By the way, why so many without a name? Don’t they have any works or volunteers that could give these pets at least a name? Studies have shown that just giving a shelter pet a name increases adoptions. This shelter is NOT doing all it can to save pets if they don’t name them.

scruffy dog photography - oh dear … can you pack up and ship me 39828? i shall name her Farfle … and 40127 while you’re at, and 40063 can come and get some good meals and good running with the scruffies so he can be a real hounddog.

awesome photos, Leesia.

Beagles!

I had a great time this weekend at Atlanta Beagle Rescue‘s 2nd annual Love-A-Beagle Meet and Greet! There was gorgeous weather and a great turnout – and I met a lot of unbelievably sweet beagle and beagle mix pups! All but one of these (who’s an alum who came to say hello!) are available for adoption – visit ABR’s website for adoption information.

Snickers is a tiny little guy with the most gorgeous amber eyes. He was pretty overwhelmed at the event, so this picture doesn’t do him justice – you just have to meet him in person!

I met two Penny’s – the one above has been waiting very patiently for her forever home, and the one below found hers last year, but I still had to share her sweet face too!

Jack

As soon as I found out Jack was a Boston Terrier, I knew it was going to be a great session! Jack is four years old and certainly didn’t disappoint. He is spunky, hilarious, and crazy lovable. Here’s a day in his life, which typically involves dancing for treats, chewing on his favorite bone or chasing his puzzle toys around, snuggling with mom, and snoring like a drunk man when he’s all tuckered out.

Don’t you just love Bostons?!
