Maisy & Abby

Anyone who’s met me knows I have a soft spot for mixed breed rescue dogs – so of course I was thrilled when Maisy and Abby’s mom asked me to be their photographer! Maisy is a border collie mix, 15 years young and definitely does not look her age – she can turn on that especially adorable puppy face when she wants a squeaky toy from you. Abby is her little sister, around four, adopted through Atlanta Pet Rescue. (Sheltie? Collie? Aussie? Who knows!)

They are the perfect pair – they can share their beloved collection of squeaky and stuffed toys and get along wonderfully. When she’s not playing ball, Maisy is the lookout, always watchful of cars and passers-by. Abby will help her stand guard from time to time, but mostly she wants someone petting her at all times. She knows that’s her purpose in the world, since she has some of the softest fur around and big brown eyes that will convince you there’s nothing else more important than snuggling with her.

Aren’t they gorgeous?

Annie, Peaches, Pumkin, and Minnie

Get ready for a serious cuteness overload! Annie is a six-year-old American Bulldog/Staffie mix, Peaches is a seven-year-old Australian Cattle dog mix, Pumkin is a 12-year-old Chihuahua, and Minnie is a one-year-old pocket Pit Bull/Boxer mix. Got all that?!

With a pack this size, I expected a bit of chaos and noise at the door, but they are wonderfully behaved, thanks to their diligent humans, a mother and daughter pair who are doing great work in Atlanta’s animal rescue community. It was so much fun getting to know each of these pups, with their individual quirks and charms. Annie is the athletic one who loves to play ball, while Peaches is the quiet snuggler who always wants to be by your side. Pumkin goes crazy for treats, but when those aren’t out she’s busy talking to ensure no one forgets she’s the diva of the house. Minnie is the baby of the family who loves toys and dances for treats.

Now I’ll let the photos do the talking!

Lydia Katrin - I LOVE the pictures! All of their personalities have been captured in the pictures and it is amazing. I love how Pumkin definitely looks like the diva haha, especially that you caught her barking to get our attention.

Zico

Zico is a majestic black cat whose wonderful mom rescues all-black cats from shelters because she knows they are the most overlooked by potential adopters. He is only six years old and has been fighting an aggressive cancer for nearly nearly two years, but now it’s time to focus on filling his days with love, treats, and long naps in the sunshine.

Zico and his dog and cat sibling Torres and Cali (all rescues!) are seriously amazing. Zico and Cali are the first cats I’ve photographed who know commands – and actually respond to them! They can roll over, give high-fives, and stand up for treats. Not to be outdone, Torres is trained in German and was asked not to bark when I first walked in – and he didn’t make a peep!

All three have such distinct and endearing personalities. Cali is ridiculously lazy and spent pretty much the whole time lying on her side or on her back, while Torres is reserved and inquisitive. Zico was much more active before his illness, but he still loves to be outside and still enjoys one of his favorite activities – flossing! This was discovered one night when his mom was getting ready for bed and he hopped up on the sink and snatched the floss away from her. Now if you hold the string out for him, he’ll lean forward to nibble on it.

I’m so honored I was able to meet this handsome, loving boy and his family!

Sneaking in just a couple of Cali and Torres since Zico was the focus of the session:

Zico’s favorite spot is in a planter he’s made into his very own custom bed:

Sarah Houck - Zico is a champion. Sadly, he got cancer from an immunization he had done prior to his mom adopting him. His loving mom (my sister) along with her husband have spent countless hours and resources attempting to treat Zico; and well, they are a true testament to loving your animal – no matter what. He is in a very caring home, he is fed some of the healthiest food, and he is truly loved by all who meet him. I am so proud to call his mom my sister – she has never given up on Zico. These photos are amazing! Thank you for posting these healing pictures for all of us to enjoy!
