Adoptables

I took a week off to visit family out west, and when I came back refreshed and ready to get back to work, it turned all of that week’s sessions had to reschedule for various reasons – no tragedies or anything like that, thank goodness, but totally understandable surprises. Thanks to my wonderful clients, they all let me know well in advance so I was able to line up some volunteer time at Dekalb County Animal Services and Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.

As always, I am overwhelmed with how many gorgeous and wonderful dogs and cats there are the shelters. I look at our kids and wonder how anyone could have ever, ever given them up.

This is just a tiny sampling from Dekalb – we photographed almost 60 dogs this time around, and more current adoptable’s photos can be seen if you click HERE:

Shadow, on the left, has a really heartbreaking story. He was surrendered because his owner is homeless and they were living in a car…when spring rolled around with this heat wave, he realized he couldn’t care for him anymore because it was too hot to leave him in the car. But Shadow’s owner was so responsible he kept up with his heartworm preventive, shots and had his neutered as well. It was devastating for him to realize that he could no longer care for him.

The lovely GSD on the right, ID40673, is pregnant and looks like she’s about to burst. When I met her she was definitely stressed and she needs to find rescue as soon as possible – please share her information with anyone you know who might be able to help.

Lastly, these 3-month-old puppies were just surrendered together and they are severely, terribly undersocialized. They quiver uncontrollably and are afraid of humans, but they are young enough that there’s a chance that whatever they experienced in their short lives can be turned around and they still have a chance at having happy lives. They need patient, loving homes, or for now, foster homes (via rescue) that can help these poor sweet pups.

Here are the sweethearts at Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption:

This is Clover, Major and Dash – Major was pulled from DCAS!

Tazzy was adopted a few hours after I left the shelter, but I just wanted to share this adorable face – such expressions!!

And because the cats always need attention too, I visited Good Mews last month and met some of their current residents awaiting adoption:

Dana - Leesia, these images are just awesome. 60 dogs in one day? WOW! That’s incredible! I hope these animals all find their forever homes soon. It just tears me up to see so many wonderful animals without a warm bed of their own. Keep up the great work!

Joni Solis - I tweeted and facebooked: Adorable #dogs #puppies #cats @ Atlanta GA #animalshelters – Adopt/Foster/Rescue/Share! #pet #photos by Leesia Teh http://ow.ly/4vGID

I too am always amazed and the lovely animals in the local animal shelters. Why buy when so many gorgeous pets are waiting for a home? The adoption option ROCKS!

I would want to take home Tazzy and a few others. I love all you do to help these homeless pets! I hope many people see these photos and fall in love and adopt!

Bethany Giannini - Wow Leesia – you do fantastic work. The photos are very moving. How incredibly sad for the one gentleman who gave up his pet because of his unfortunate situation. All of us who are able to keep our pets and have the luxury of a home are lucky and should hug our own pets this evening. I hope someone adopts Shadow soon, especially after his previous owner went to such lengths to care for him – truly loved him.

Moby – 2 years old!

I’m sure many of you remember Moby, the handsome and crazy photogenic Bernese Mountain dog I photographed at eight weeks old and again at five months old. After our second session, he moved out of Atlanta so I wasn’t sure when I was going to get to see him again…now, a little over a year later, his parents brought him back for a visit and everything came together perfectly. The weather was gorgeous and Moby was playful and rambunctious as ever!

nick - Aww they do grow up so fast ๐Ÿ™‚ Looks like a fun session!

Darla

Darla is a wonderfully affectionate, playful pit bull (mix?) who thinks she’s still a puppy. She was ecstatic to have a morning with all the attention devoted to her, and was a very obliging model. She’s completely obsessed with the tennis ball, loves her stuffed toys, and is doing very well with her new human sister, who’s a little over a year old now.
